The Journal: Focus on breast health
Any woman will tell you that breast health is of the utmost concern throughout her life. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the United States, and one in eight will be diagnosed with it during her lifetime. On Cape Cod, the issue is particularly acute, due to our older demographic (breast cancer occurs mostly in older women) and our highest-in-the-state rates of the disease. But, there is also much reason for optimism. New, targeted therapies and treatment mean that women (and men) diagnosed with breast cancer have a much greater chance of cure and/or management of the disease.
At Cape Cod Healthcare, a multi-disciplinary team of highly skilled physicians, nurses, technologists, social workers and others are providing the latest and best breast health care.
This inaugural issue of The Journal will give you insight into the sophisticated level of healthcare that is available right here on Cape Cod. We hope that the information contained inside will help you better engage in your own care and will facilitate a better partnership with your community healthcare system.
