Comprehensive Pregnancy & Birth Care – Close to Home

Having a baby is one of life’s most memorable experiences. Our maternity specialists welcome the opportunity to provide expectant mothers and their babies with expert, personalized care throughout pregnancy, birth and beyond.

Your pregnancy journey begins with prenatal care, supported by our teams at Cape Cod Hospital OB/GYN in Hyannis and Cape Obstetrics & Gynecology in Falmouth, Sandwich and Bourne.

Our skilled care teams of board-certified and board-eligible obstetrician/gynecologists (OB/GYNs), 24/7 on-site pediatricians from Boston Children’s Hospital, certified nurse-midwives, nurse practitioners, childbirth and parenting educators, board-certified lactation consultants, nurses and support staff partner with families every step of this special journey to ensure a safe and rewarding birth experience.

Prenatal care, including prenatal testing and screening, is an important part of keeping you and your baby healthy during your pregnancy. Regular tests, such as ultrasounds and bloodwork, can help us identify and treat problems before they cause pregnancy complications. As no two pregnancies are the same, we'll work with you to personalize your birth plan, including discussion about pregnancy nutrition, medications, exercise, childbirth preferences and more.

The Family Birthplace

When you choose The Family Birthplace at Cape Cod Hospital you have a full team here for you, with collaborative decision making throughout your pregnancy and birthing journey. Our obstetricians, midwives and nurses will partner with you to accommodate and support the style of delivery you choose. On-site labor and delivery care at The Family Birthplace is provided 24/7 by a team of skilled certified nurse midwives and laborists. Working together, these highly-trained midwives and physicians assure that all mothers receive the appropriate level of care given their unique set of circumstances.

For specialized, high-risk pregnancy care, we work closely with the Boston Maternal Fetal Medicine team to offer a full spectrum of prenatal diagnosis and care for you and your baby from conception to birth.

Our full team includes:

  • OB/GYNS - Provide comprehensive medical care throughout pregnancy and childbirth, including managing routine and high-risk pregnancies and performing deliveries when needed.
  • Certified Nurse Midwives - Provide a nurturing and educational approach, with robust experience in fertility, pregnancy health, labor and infant care. These midwife teams often work in tandem with obstetricians should additional medical intervention become necessary.
  • Pediatric Hospitalists - Affiliated with Boston Children's Hospital, this team cares for newborns who need additional medical evaluation or treatment, including babies with complications or special health needs after birth.
  • Advanced practice clinicians (e.g., nurse practitioners, physician assistants): Offer in-office obstetrical care as part of your comprehensive prenatal care team.
  • Lactation Consultants - Provide one-on-one infant feeding care to assist with individualized feeding plans, infant weight assessments and assist with any breastfeeding issues.
  • Specialized labor and delivery nurses - Provide hands-on support and monitoring throughout labor and delivery, while assisting with pain management, newborn education and the immediate care of mother and baby.

We also partner with local doulas who offer in-language assistance for Portuguese, Spanish, Jamaican and Haitian Creole patients – ensuring we can support culturally-appropriate care for our diverse community.
