Geriatric Care

Geriatric medicine is devoted to managing the health of older adults with a focus on symptom management, improving comfort and maintaining independence. At Cape Cod Healthcare, you can choose from physicians (called geriatricians) with special training in geriatric medicine.

Geriatricians frequently provide primary care for older adults whose age-related problems require special attention. These complications include falls, incontinence, cerebrovascular disease, dementia and other medical and cognitive impairments.

Reasons to consult a geriatrician

A geriatric medicine specialist can be especially helpful when:

  • An older adult has a medical or cognitive condition that causes considerable impairment or could lead to accidents or infection
  • An older adult has a number of diseases and/or disabilities
  • An older adult is managing a large array of prescription and/or over-the-counter medications
  • You or other caregivers are experiencing significant stress and strain
