Minimally Invasive Treatments

Image guided injections and minimally invasive procedures are safe, precise and may minimize the risks of complications while relieving back pain.

Cape Cod Healthcare’s spine specialists – our expert neurosurgeons – use the latest in technology to offer relief to patients who may be suffering from back pain.

Spine Injections

Injections can offer a non-surgical option for back pain, before surgery is considered. Injections can be useful in providing pain relief and as a diagnostic tool to help identify the source of the pain.

OsteoCool Radiofrequency Ablation

OsteoCool radiofrequency (RF) ablation is a procedure that uses alternating, low-power current, directed through a probe, to heat and destroy spinal tumors. During this minimally invasive procedure, this heated probe, in combination with a second probe directing water to the site, kills cancerous cells, while preserving healthy tissue.

Radiofrequency Neurotomy of the Lumbar Facets

During this minimally invasive procedure, the physician uses heat from radio waves to treat painful facet joints in your lower back. This procedure is also called radiofrequency rhizotomy. It can treat pain that doesn’t respond to medications or to physical therapy.

Radiofrequency Neurotomy of the Thoracic Facets

During this minimally invasive procedure, the physician uses heat from radio waves to treat painful facet joints in your upper back. This procedure is also called radiofrequency rhizotomy. It can treat pain that doesn’t respond to medications or to physical therapy.

Spinal Cord Stimulation

Spinal cord stimulation (also called SCS) uses electrical impulses to relieve chronic pain of the back, arms and legs. It is believed that electrical pulses prevent pain signals from being received by the brain. SCS candidates include people who suffer from neuropathic pain and for whom conservative treatments have failed.

Intracept® Procedure

Cape Cod Healthcare now offers the Intracept® Procedure, a minimally invasive, outpatient surgical treatment that has been clinically proven to improve function and reduce pain long term in patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP). Its advanced technology targets a nerve located in the vertebrae of the spine utilizing a specialized probe and radiofrequency heat ablation to block nerve pain signals.

VELYS™ Spine Procedures

Spinal fusion may be a recommendation to treat neck or back pain due to degenerative discs that have worn over time or other conditions of the spine. Cape Cod Healthcare now offers the VELYS™ Spine Navigation Platform, an advanced digital technology designed to enhance surgical precision, accuracy and efficiency in spinal fusion procedures. A next generation technology from orthopedic device leader J&J Med Tech, VELYS™ Spine assists surgeons in planning and instrumenting fusion procedures in the cervical (neck), thoracolumbar (upper and lower back) and sacroiliac (lowest region near tailbone) spine by using three-dimensional imagery to guide manual placement of surgical hardware to stabilize and hold vertebrae in place while the fusion heals. This minimally invasive navigation platform enables our neurosurgeons to pre-plan and efficiently perform fusion procedures, enhancing patient safety and outcomes.
