Fibroscan® Liver Test

Cape Cod Healthcare is proud to offer the latest in non-invasive examination technology, such as FibroScan®, which is a non-invasive test used to assess liver stiffness. The result is immediate, it shows the condition of the liver and allows physicians to diagnose and monitor changes. Exam results help to anticipate possible complications, as well as to monitor and assess the damage caused by conditions such as cirrhosis. The FibroScan® examination is painless, quick and easy.

What Diseases are Detected Using FibroScan®?

FibroScan® is used to detect diseases or conditions of the liver such as:

  • Chronic Hepatic viral diseases - Hepatitis B and C
  • Metabolic Diseases affecting the liver - Diabetes and NAFLD (non-alcoholic fibrotic liver disease)
  • Alcoholic Liver Disease
  • Abnormal LFT (liver function tests)
  • Abnormal appearance of the liver on US, CT or MRI.

How to Prepare

Since FibroScan® is considered a form of ultrasound, you should expect that it may be required for you to remove jewelry and some or all of your clothing, change into a gown, and lie on an examination table. Additional patient preparation guidelines can be found under Imaging & Radiology Services - Ultrasound.
