24/7 Access to High-Level Critical Care
Cape Cod Hospital is a designated Level III trauma center serving the Cape and Islands and southeastern Massachusetts. It fills a critical need for our region and is equipped to provide prompt assessment, resuscitation, surgical intervention and intensive care for patients with moderate to severe traumatic injuries, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If you or a loved one is critically injured, the skilled trauma team at Cape Cod Hospital is ready to help.
Our designation as a Level III trauma center by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) demonstrates our commitment and dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients across the care continuum from the pre-hospital phase through the rehabilitation process. It also signifies that our program meets rigorous nationally accepted standards set by the ACS for care of the injured patient. Our trauma experts and multidisciplinary teams provide care for patients of all ages from newborn to older adults addressing injuries caused by falls, motor vehicle crashes, penetrating wounds, sports injuries and more.
Dedication to Injury Prevention
Traumatic injury is one of the leading causes of preventable death in the United States. As a Level III trauma center, we recognize that injury prevention is a critical component of comprehensive trauma care. We are proud to host a robust multidisciplinary team that is dedicated to reducing the occurrence of preventable injuries through education, community outreach and evidence-based interventions.
Our prevention efforts are data-driven and target the most common causes of injury that we see on the Cape and Islands, which currently includes falls, bicycle accidents and motor vehicle crashes. Through partnerships with local, regional and state organizations, schools and public health agencies, we provide educational workshops, safety resources and community initiatives aimed at promoting safer environments.
Our program also benefits from collaboration with many national, local, state and community-based partners to engage in evidence-based prevention initiatives to address underlying factors contributing to traumatic injuries. By addressing risk factors and advocating for injury prevention strategies, we strive to enhance public safety and reduce the burden of traumatic injuries.
Our partnerships include:
- Cape Cod Healthcare's Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) of Cape Cod
- Massachusetts Prevent Injuries Now! Network
- Massachusetts Traffic Safety Coalition
- Local fire and police departments
