Cancer Surgery & Procedures
As part of Cape Cod Healthcare's Cancer Care program, cancer surgery may be used for a variety of reasons – specifically to remove tumors and prevent the spread of cancer, but also as a diagnostic tool.
When used for diagnosis, surgical services assist in the biopsy of tissue, help determine the form of cancer, stage and the extent of the disease. In addition, cancer surgeons may implant treatment devices, perform reconstructive procedures and assist with pain management.
Types of cancer treated at Cape Cod Healthcare by our surgical specialists include:
Experienced Surgical Care, Close to Home
Our highly skilled surgeons are board-certified, experienced and trained in the latest techniques, including less invasive procedures that use smaller incisions and lead to a faster recovery.
Cape Cod Healthcare is also proud to offer cutting-edge robotic surgery options using the da Vinci® Surgical System to treat cancers of the colon, lung, prostate, rectum and uterus.
Throughout your treatment, you’ll be surrounded by a multidisciplinary team of compassionate, specially trained nurses, social workers and other professionals. You’ll also benefit from support services to help you cope, heal and thrive.
Minimally Invasive Image-Guided Procedures
A specialized interventional radiology team is also part of our cancer care program, utilizing minimally invasive techniques to diagnose and treat types of cancer that previously required surgery. Using advanced imaging technology, x-ray fluoroscopy, cone beam CT, CT fluoroscopy and ultrasound, interventional radiologists guide catheters and miniaturized instruments through small incisions and treat tumors with ablation, resulting in less risk and scarring, reduced infection rates and a quicker return to regular activities.
Depending on your medical history and specific condition, you may be a candidate for an interventional radiology (IR) procedure. These minimally invasive techniques are excellent options for:
- Biopsies
- Lung cancer
- Liver Cancer
- Kidney cancer
- Thyroid Cancer and symptomatic goiter
- Bone cancer
- Adrenal cancer
- Soft tissue cancer
During IR procedures, you’ll receive effective, targeted treatments for your specific situation while experiencing less pain and shorter recovery time compared to traditional surgery.
