The specially designed center is equipped with the technology of an inpatient hospital unit, arranged in a tranquil and unique setting. All patient rooms are spacious and private, with balconies overlooking the surrounding woods. Designed to blend with nature, the light-filled space offers a peaceful environment for a restful stay and includes shared common areas such as the kitchen and dining area. A chapel provides a quiet place for meditation and reflection. Friends and family are welcome to visit 24 hours a day and special pet visits can be arranged.

A dedicated interdisciplinary care team provides individualized, round-the-clock skilled care and emotional and spiritual support to help patients feel safe, comfortable, respected and valued. Patients are candidates for admission to McCarthy Care Center when pain or other symptoms have become difficult to manage at home. Qualifying patients require plan of care changes that need to be monitored by hospice medical staff 24/7 until resolved.

Please note:

For the safety of our patients, visitors and staff, additional safety protocols are in place due to COVID-19. For details, please see information for Patients and Families.

For Patients & Families

Your Care Team

Dedicated care and comfort

At McCarthy Care Center, you will be cared for by an interdisciplinary team who will work with you and your doctor to develop a plan of care that will support your goals and meet your needs.

Your Hospice Team Includes:

  • Your primary care physician: the hospice team will keep your primary care doctor informed of any changes to your condition and changes in your plan of care.
  • Hospice Physicians and Nurse Practitioners: Medical team members specialized in palliative care and pain management are on staff at McCarthy Care Center.  Their role is to provide excellent coordinated care needed to manage pain and other symptoms.
  • Nurse: your hospice nurse manages your care in consultation with your primary care and hospice physicians, and other members of your hospice team. Your nurse will monitor your condition and coordinate all aspects of your care.
  • Social worker: a social worker can help you determine your goals for end of life care and may offer emotional support for you and your loved ones, as well as facilitate family meetings to address your care and comfort, helping to resolve any conflicts or stressful situations. A social worker may also provide information on healthcare decision making (Advance Directive and Healthcare Proxy), as well as referrals to community resources, financial assistance and funeral arrangements.
  • Chaplain: a chaplain or spiritual counselor offers non-denominational guidance and may provide support for issues such as faith, fear, loss, forgiveness, anger or spiritual questioning. A chaplain may also connect with the clergy of your faith community.
  • Hospice aide: an aide can assist with personal care, such as bathing, eating, dressing and personal grooming, and will collect laundry and change bed linen.
  • Complementary therapists: certified therapists offer a variety of services to enrich the quality of life for patients, including Reiki, music and pet therapy.
  • Volunteer: a hospice volunteer can visit on a regular basis or as needed. Volunteers have extensive training and offer support services such as companionship, listening, reading, playing music, writing letters, singing and providing bedside vigil.

Patient and Family Support

Our goal while you are staying at McCarthy Care Center is to make you feel as comfortable as possible and to provide you with the support you and your family need to make the most of your time together.

Please let us know any special requests you have that might make your time with us more meaningful, including arrangement of special pet visits.

Spiritual support

Our non-denominational chaplains can provide support for topics such as faith, fear, forgiveness, anger or spiritual questioning. They can contact or coordinate with the clergy of your faith community for visits and sacraments and arrange for the delivery of materials to help Jewish patients observe the Shabbat rituals.

Support at the end of life

The time when a patient nears the end of life can come quickly or can take days or longer. During this difficult time, patients and families may take comfort from the extra support our chaplains and social workers can provide. They can assist with practical matters such as funeral or memorial service arrangements or can be there for emotional or spiritual support to talk or listen to family stories. Our volunteers can provide additional support through quiet sitting at the bedside or by sitting in vigil with patients so they are never alone. Please talk to any member of your care team to request these services.
