Cape Cod Healthcare and 1199SEIU are pleased to offer a Certified Surgical Technologist Apprenticeship Program to create opportunities for Surgical Technologists in the Operating Rooms at Cape Cod Hospital (CCH) and Falmouth Hospital (FH). This program is designed to welcome interested candidates to complete a Certified Surgical Technologist classroom program with Lasell University. The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) / Training and Upgrading Fund (TUF) will fully cover tuition, leaving participants with virtually zero out-of-pocket expenses.

Get paid, on-the-job training and have your classwork tuition fully paid for while growing your career within Cape Cod Healthcare’s award-winning organization!

How it Works

  • Apprenticeship positions include working in the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) and the Operating Room (OR) at either Cape Cod Hospital or Falmouth Hospital while completing the Associate of Science—Surgical Technology academic program through Lasell University.
  • Candidates will apply into a day shift, with rotating days, and occasional weekends and holidays.
  • In addition to being qualified to be hired into an apprenticeship position, the candidate will also be required to apply to, and be accepted into, the 16-month Associate of Science – Certified Surgical Technology academic program at Lasell University.
  • Apprentices are regular employees and will be considered probationary until the individual completes this program and moves into a regular Certified Surgical Technologist Position.
  • Apprentices will complete the 16-month academic program and pass the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) examination, offered through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
  • Apprentices who complete the above will transition into a regular Certified Surgical Technologist position and must stay in the position for a minimum of 12 months.

What’s Included?

  • All costs of Lasell University and Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) examination covered. (Approximately $30,000 value!)
  • Classroom curriculum with Lasell University’s accredited Associate of Science – Certified Surgical Technology program
  • On-the-job training. Students will scrub in on 120+ surgical procedures and log over 600 hours of clinical experience.
  • Local education—You will not need to leave the Cape for this program. This includes applying lab skills at Cape Cod Hospital and/or Falmouth Hospital.
  • Flexibility of learning – Most classes are 100% online over the required four continuous semesters.
  • At CCH, upon completing the Surgical Technologist Program and successfully passing the CST exam, the incumbent will transfer into the Certified Surgical Technologist Grade S14 position.
