Cape Cod Hospital (Med Surg Floors)

Mugar 3 – Stroke / Medical-Surgical Unit – 30 Beds

Mugar 3 is a specialized unit focused on the care of patients recovering from strokes and those requiring comprehensive medical-surgical treatment. With a multidisciplinary team of experienced nurses, therapists, and physicians, the unit is equipped to handle the complex needs of neurologically compromised patients while also supporting a wide range of acute medical conditions. Emphasis is placed on early mobilization, stroke education, and discharge planning to ensure optimal recovery and continuity of care.

Mugar 4 – Oncology / Stroke / Palliative Care / Medical-Surgical Unit – 30 Beds

Mugar 4 provides compassionate, specialized care for oncology patients, individuals recovering from stroke, and those requiring palliative or general medical-surgical support. This unit blends high-level clinical expertise with emotional and psychological support, offering pain management, symptom control, and comfort care in collaboration with the Palliative Care team. Whether patients are receiving active cancer treatment, transitioning through recovery, or navigating serious illness, Mugar 4 ensures dignity, empathy, and high-quality care every step of the way.

Mugar 5 – Surgical / Dialysis Unit – 30 Beds

Mugar 5 is a dynamic unit serving post-operative patients, trauma patients, and individuals undergoing dialysis. As part of a Level 3 Trauma Center, the unit routinely admits trauma patients requiring surgical intervention and specialized recovery. These patients are typically managed under general surgery or orthopedic services, with the nursing staff providing expert post-trauma care in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. The unit also specializes in post-surgical recovery across various specialties, coordinating closely with surgical teams to monitor healing, prevent complications, and manage pain effectively. Additionally, dialysis patients receive expert care in managing chronic and acute renal conditions in a supportive and closely monitored environment. Mugar 5 excels in delivering seamless care tailored to the complex needs of surgical, trauma, and renal patients.

Mugar 6 – Orthopedic / Neurosurgery / Post-Operative Surgical Unit – 30 Beds

Mugar 6 is dedicated to the care of orthopedic and neurosurgical patients, as well as individuals recovering from a wide range of surgical procedures. As part of Cape Cod Hospital’s designation as a Level 3 Trauma Center, the unit also supports the recovery of trauma patients—particularly those with complex orthopedic or neurosurgical injuries—requiring specialized post-operative care. Known for its clinical excellence in joint replacements, spinal surgeries, and neuro procedures, Mugar 6 emphasizes mobility, rehabilitation, and pain management to help patients regain strength and independence. A strong interdisciplinary approach ensures personalized recovery plans, making Mugar 6 a cornerstone of surgical and trauma recovery at Cape Cod Hospital.

North 3 – Cardiac Unit – 37 Beds

North 3 is Cape Cod Hospital’s premier cardiac care unit, providing comprehensive monitoring and treatment for patients with acute and chronic heart conditions. Specially trained cardiac nurses staff the unit and works closely with cardiologists and cardiovascular teams to deliver state-of-the-art care, including telemetry monitoring, post-cardiac procedure care, and heart failure management. Patient education and lifestyle support are key components, empowering individuals to take an active role in their cardiac health journey.

South 2 – Medical-Surgical Unit – 24 Beds

South 2 is a versatile medical-surgical unit providing individualized care for adult patients with a wide range of health concerns. This unit serves as a vital part of the hospital's continuum of care, managing both acute medical issues and post-operative recovery. With a strong emphasis on patient-centered care, interdisciplinary teamwork, and clinical excellence, South 2 ensures that each patient receives timely, efficient, and compassionate treatment in a healing environment.

Float Pool - Medical Surgical/ Overflows

The float pool is a group of highly skilled and flexible staff members who provide safe, high-quality care in all of our inpatient departments. Their responsibilities can vary daily depending on staffing needs and patient census. Successful team members communicate effectively and adapt to the culture and workflow of each department.


Falmouth Hospital (Med Surg Floors)

Med Surg 1 – Medical-Surgical / BiPAP / Inpatient COVID Unit – 13 Beds

Med Surg 1 is a specialized unit offering comprehensive medical-surgical care with a clinical focus on patients requiring respiratory support, including BiPAP therapy. This unit also serves as Falmouth Hospital’s designated inpatient COVID care area, equipped with enhanced infection control measures and negative pressure capabilities. The care team is experienced in managing complex respiratory conditions and infectious disease protocols while maintaining a warm, patient-centered approach. Med Surg 1 stands out for its adaptability, clinical vigilance, and compassionate care during some of the most challenging patient journeys.

Med Surg 2 – Medical-Surgical Unit – 15 Beds

Med Surg 2 is a general medical-surgical unit providing high-quality, personalized care for patients with a broad range of medical conditions and post-operative needs. With a low nurse-to-patient ratio and a collaborative team environment, Med Surg 2 excels in delivering attentive, efficient care. The unit is known for its calm, healing atmosphere, making it an ideal setting for recovery and education. Patients and families appreciate the clear communication and hands-on support that define the Med Surg 2 experience.

Med Surg 3 – Surgical / Total Joint Unit – 20 Beds

Med Surg 3 is the surgical hub of Falmouth Hospital, with a specialized focus on orthopedic procedures, particularly total joint replacements. Patients recovering from hip, knee, and other joint surgeries benefit from coordinated care between nurses, physical therapists, and orthopedic specialists. The unit emphasizes early mobility, effective pain management, and safe discharge planning. Med Surg 4 – Medical-Surgical Unit – 24 Beds
