Oncology Nutrition Program

Patients undergoing treatment for cancer have specialized nutritional needs. To help our patients maintain good nutrition and adequate food intake throughout their cancer care, Cape Cod Healthcare has developed an Oncology Nutrition Program.

This program is funded through a partnership with the Compass of Hope Gala, an event which benefits the American Cancer Society and supports Cape Cod Healthcare’s cancer services. It is designed to provide patients with education and counseling about healthy nutrition.Patients also receive vouchers and coupons to defray the cost of nutritionally appropriate foods.

By coordinating an appointment through their oncologist, patients can meet with a registered dietitian to review nutrition options that complement their clinical care. Patients will be provided with an individualized nutritional care plan, which includes foods and meal schedules that may benefit them through treatment, and be monitored for additional education and support.

Caregivers are also invited to attend the patients’ individual sessions or group meetings led by the dietitian to gain important information to help support the patients’ nutritional needs.
