Capital Projects - Building An Infrastructure For Quality, Efficiency, Excellence

Capital Projects Overview

The Campaign for Cape Cod Healthcare focuses on the significant needs of our community. Specifically, our commitment to improve access for our patients and to capital improvements in a number of essential areas including oncology, cardiology, intensive care, urgent & primary care, memory care and skilled nursing, so that the care provided in our facilities will make a significant difference in improving the lives in our community.

Cape Cod Hospital

With an emphasis on facility modernization, patient access, and our continued focus on strategic healthcare partnerships, we
will be enhancing our services at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis with a new four-story Tower that will redefine cancer and heart care
on the Cape.

  • Davenport-Mugar Cancer Center Expansion
    • Our expanded Davenport-Mugar Cancer Center will feature a dedicated entrance and spacious waiting area and lobby on the first floor.
    • A state-of-the-art linear accelerator will also be added with more advanced features and greater efficiencies for treating tumors with radiation.
    • The second floor will offer medical oncology and infusion services with 36 private, spacious infusion bays (twice the current amount) and 24 medical oncology exam rooms.

  • Cardiac Excellence
    • The cardiac floor (comprised of 32 ultra-modern, private patient rooms) will provide care for patients following stenting procedures as well as aortic and mitral valve replacement and repair.
  • Other Cape Cod Hospital Upgrades and Enhancement
    • Construction of the tower is allowing for new space allocations such as a new 16-bed Maternity Center, new OB/GYN Suite adjacent to the new Maternity Center.
    • A renovated Surgery Suite with 11 operating rooms and a robotic operating room
    • Upgraded Cardiology Suite to include a new CT Scanner, Catheterization Lab and Echocardiography Lab
    • A new Behavioral Health Treatment Center

Falmouth Hospital

Our goal is to continue enhancing Falmouth Hospital's essential patient care operations, making space improvements and obtaining the latest equipment to attract the best medical, nursing and clinical professionals in order to address the needs of our communities and patients.

  • Salerno Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
    • Our goal is to modernize the ICU to accommodate the needs of sicker patients using the latest healthcare technology. Currently located on the ground level, adjacent to the Surgical Center, the new Unit is being moved to the first floor where rooms will be more supportive of the critical work of highly-skilled doctors and nurses, more spacious and comfortable for patients and more conducive to the visits of loved ones.
  • Surgical Expansion
    • With the move of the ICU to the first floor, we are able to expand our surgical center from five to seven operating suites as well as upgrade technology and increase space for larger surgical teams performing more sophisticated procedures, such as neurosurgery.
  • Continued Upgrade of FH Patient Care Services
    • A new comprehensive Cardiac Testing Suite that centralizes essential heart analysis, diagnosis and treatment.
    • A modern and efficient Infectious Disease Office for care of tick-borne illnesses, HIV/AIDS and viral and bacterial infections.

JML Care Center

Built in 1989, JML is comprised of two stories with 52 short-term rehabilitation beds on the first floor and 80 long-term beds on the second floor. As a part of our strategic planning processes, Cape Cod Healthcare developed a plan for substantial improvements and upgrades to bring JML into compliance with current standards and meet the needs of the residents it serves.

  • Redesign, Expansion and Modernization
    • A key part of the renovation is the addition of a new wing. The additional space will allow for the conversion of double occupancy rooms to private rooms on the first floor.

    • The front façade of JML is being updated and enhanced with the addition of a covered carport, driveway and side entrance for a new ambulance bay.

    • The physical rehabilitation area has been completely renewed and expanded along with the second floor activity area, staff offices and administrative space.

New Primary and Urgent Care Centers

One of CCHC’s most successful initiatives has been the development of outpatient centers that offer urgent, primary and specialty care. In FY21, our urgent care centers treated over 100,000 patients, providing critical access to care during the demands of the pandemic.

Given the success of this model, in 2021 we opened the John and Marjorie McGraw Medical Complex in Osterville and plan on a similar facility in Orleans in 2022. Both facilities will provide year-round primary care and seasonal urgent care during the summer months.

McCarthy Care Center

In early 2019, HopeHealth turned over its Cape Cod operations to Cape Cod Healthcare and the Visiting Nurse Association of Cape Cod.
The arrangement included the McCarthy Care Center, a 10-bed hospice inpatient facility.

After the transfer of ownership, Cape Cod Healthcare invested in an $1.2 million renovation to upgrade what was needed to meet current standards, both cosmetically and in regard to regulatory requirements. The renovated McCarthy Care Center reopened in November 2020. The ambiance has stayed intact – home-like, warm, soothing and welcoming.
