Women’s Music Festival fundraiser for cancer treatment returns
The Cape Cod Women’s Music Festival is back! After missing two years due to the COVID pandemic, the fundraiser for Cape Wellness Collaborative returns in September 2022. Tickets are available now and are expected to sell out soon.
“We've had overwhelmingly a positive response to everybody wanting to be together again,” said Abby Field, CEO of Cape Wellness Collaborative. “There is some comedy in the lineup and we think it will be fun. We felt that it's important that everybody be together, in-person, doing something really positive.”
CWC provides funding for integrative therapies (including massage, acupuncture, Reiki and nutrition counseling) for people facing cancer on the Cape and Islands. The organization has assisted about 1,500 clients since it was founded in 2014. Cape Cod Healthcare has been a proud supporter of Cape Wellness Collaborative and the services it offers to local cancer patients.
The Music Festival will be at the Cape Playhouse, 820 Main Street (Route 6A), Dennis, on Friday, Sept. 2. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m.
Headlining the show is Tanya Donnelly & the Parkington Sisters. Donnelly was a founding member of the rock bands Throwing Muses, the Breeders, and Belly, which was nominated for two Grammy Awards (Best New Artist and Best Alternative Music Performance). Wellfleet’s Parkington Sisters have shared the stage with Bruce Springsteen, Mavis Staples and the Dropkick Murphys and performed the National Anthem at Fenway Park the night the Red Sox won the 2013 World Series.
Also performing will be Marcia Belsky, Naomi Westwater, Sara Leketa, Melic Moon and Zoe Lewis, along with special guest appearances by Kami Lyle, Thirsty Burlington, Mozelle, Sarah Burrill & Sarah Swain, Abby Field, Tamora Israel, Jodi Birchall and Kristen Knowles.
“Our applications for services have increased about 40 percent, so we're very busy, and we do need the support of the community,” said Field.
For example, CWC’s Wellness Eats program has provided over 5,500 health-supportive meals for people on Cape Cod facing cancer. It’s now housed at The West End restaurant in Hyannis, under the supervision of culinary director Chris Shortall.
“The heart of what we do is everybody coming together,” said Field.
“Our work has always been achieved by everybody linking arms, rolling up their sleeves and pitching in. It takes a village, and one thing I've noticed is that many of the people that we serve or support for a period of time come back around as soon as they're feeling a little better, and they help someone else who needs it. They're plugging in as a volunteer, they're donating, they're getting involved.
“Having the whole community involved is the essence of our mission, providing, nurturing support for people who are going through a really rough time.”
