The Power of Cranberries

Cranberry Health

The anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer properties of cranberries are thought to be due to their proanthocyanidins and other flavonoids that work as anti-oxidants. Although robust human studies are not available yet, early evidence from various types of studies are indicative of the benefits of cranberries on human health.

Laboratory studies confirm the protective effect of cranberry on human cancer cells. Human population studies of meal patterns that include berries find them to improve health. Human clinical trials have shown cranberries are good for urinary health as well.

Above all, living on Cape Cod with its cranberry bogs is a great reason to include cranberries in our Thanksgiving dinner menu!

Here are a couple of whole-food, plant-based cranberry recipes from the website Forks Over Knives. Enjoy!
