Lifestyle choices play a key role in breast health

Dr. Sidhartha Virtual Event

It seems as though more information comes out daily about the importance of lifestyle choices in maintaining good breast health. An upcoming virtual event sponsored by Cape Cod Healthcare will provide the latest information in this area.

“Reducing Breast Cancer Risk Through Lifestyle Behaviors: The Impact of Nutrition, Exercise, Weight Management and Alcohol Use” will be presented from 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 21. The virtual event in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month will be presented by Kumara Sidhartha, MD, MPH, Medical Director Cape Cod Healthcare ACO and EHP, with an introduction from Jill Oxley, MD, FACS, Cape Cod Hospital Breast Surgeon and Medical Director of Breast Services for CCHC.

“Knowledge is power,” said Dr. Sidhartha. “Giving this power to women is a highlight of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month Campaign at Cape Cod Healthcare.”

Scientific evidence about preventing breast cancer through lifestyle behavior has evolved and matured over the past decade, he said.

“The goal of this education program is to distill and translate this evidence into bite-sized chunks of actionable steps to prevent breast cancer,” he added.

The program will cover details about:

  • The connection between preventing breast cancer and preventing heart attacks,
  • The lessons that have been learned from groups who are immune to cancers,
  • Which lifestyle factors give the most comprehensive protection against breast cancer and why.

The virtual event is free and open to the public. Registration is required and the online access information for the talk will be provided upon registration. To reserve your spot, please visit www.capecodhealth.org/october-awareness.
