Cape Cod Healthcare Issues Statement on Good-Faith Negotiations with SEIU Collective Bargaining Units

(Hyannis, MA - May 13, 2026) – Cape Cod Healthcare, Inc. (CCHC) has been engaged in ongoing, good-faith negotiations with four 1199 SEIU collective bargaining units - Cape Cod Hospital, Falmouth Hospital, Cape Cod Healthcare Laboratory Services, and Cape Cod Human Services, Inc. - and remains committed to reaching fair successor agreements for our employees. To further support progress in negotiations at Cape Cod Hospital, the parties are currently working with a federal mediator.

For more than six months during bargaining, CCHC has presented comprehensive proposals that include meaningful wage increases, enhancements to shift differentials and call pay, and measures to reduce healthcare premium costs for part-time employees. These proposals are designed to support our workforce while ensuring CCHC can continue delivering high-quality care to the communities we serve, along with comprehensive benefits to our employees and their covered family members.

CCHC’s wage proposal is designed to strengthen competitiveness across the wage scale while recognizing the experience and contributions of long-tenured employees. The proposal includes adjustments to starting wage rates to better align with current market conditions and support recruitment in the highly competitive healthcare environment. At the same time, the proposal provides wage increases for employees at the top of the scale, where many current rates already exceed market benchmarks.

CCHC has proposed maintaining current healthcare premium contribution rates for most full-time employees. For a group of employees hired prior to 2011, whose healthcare premium contributions have remained at 2% for more than 15 years, significantly below current market norms, CCHC has proposed a phased adjustment beginning in 2027. Under the proposal, employee contributions for family healthcare coverage, which currently carries an annual CCHC premium cost of $38,743, would increase to 5.5% in 2027 and 8.5% in 2028. Even with these adjustments, the proposal remains far below the national average employee premium contribution rate of 23% for family coverage*. In addition, the healthcare premium share for part-time employees would be reduced significantly under the proposal.

These proposals reflect CCHC’s commitment to provide competitive pay and benefits while responsibly managing rising healthcare costs. CCHC believes the proposed wage and benefit enhancements are a fair and balanced path forward and remains committed to reaching a fair agreement.
