Fontaine Medical Center to Open Urgent Care

January 2014

Cape Cod Healthcare is pleased to announce that it is reinvesting in the Lower Cape community with an expansion and renovation project at Fontaine Medical Center in Harwich. The $1.6 million project, which is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2014, will include upgrades to existing services and the opening of a new Urgent Care Center.

Among the improvements you can expect to see at Fontaine Medical Center after construction is completed are:

  • New Urgent Care Center
  • New lobby area
  • Renovated and expanded C-Lab area
  • Updated Behavioral Health area

The new Urgent Care Center at Fontaine will be modeled after a successful, first-of-its-kind Urgent Care program which Cape Cod Healthcare opened at Stoneman Outpatient Center in Sandwich in the spring of 2013. The program, which features the only Urgent Care Services on Cape Cod staffed by emergency room-trained physicians, has received positive feedback from patients who have received timely, high-quality care and were spared a trip to the emergency room.

Like at Stoneman, Urgent Care Services at Fontaine Medical Center will feature:

  • Emergency Room-trained physicians
  • No appointment or referral needed
  • Extended evening and weekend hours
  • Most insurances accepted

Cape Cod Healthcare is committed to investing in our communities so that we can deliver high-quality care close to home,” said CCHC President and CEO Michael Lauf.” We recognize that part of the solution to the rising cost of healthcare is to provide relevant care in lower cost outpatient settings. By providing the right care at the right time in the right place, we are demonstrating our commitment to improve and enhance healthcare services for the residents and visitors of Cape Cod.”

Fontaine Medical Center has been providing high-quality services for Lower Cape residents and visitors for nearly 40 years. The facility was established in 1975, thanks to a group of local visionaries who recognized the need for a satellite healthcare center in one of the Cape’s most rural locations. It was last expanded and renovated in 2001, with the help of a generous leadership gift of $2 million from the late Ray and Marie Fontaine of Harwich.

CCHC has continued to reinvest in Fontaine Medical Center, with the help of people like the Fontaines and David and Gail Oppenheim of Chatham. The Oppenheims generously donated $500,000 to establish the Oppenheim Family Challenge for Fontaine Medical Center, which doubled the impact of each gift made to the campaign.

Today, Fontaine offers a wide array of services, including:

  • Primary care
  • Specialty care rotation
  • Orthopedic, Surgery, Cardiology
  • Behavioral health
  • C-Lab
  • Imaging Services – mammography, MRI, CT/PET, X-ray, ultrasound, bone density

When the newly renovated and expanded Fontaine Medical Center is completed, CCHC will hold a grand opening to celebrate a new era in outpatient services on the Lower Cape. At that time, the name of the facility will change to Fontaine Outpatient Center to more accurately reflect the expanded scope of services that will be offered there.
