CCHC Announces Name Change, New Hours for C-Lab

On October 31, 1988, the C-Lab laboratory service began at Cape Cod Hospital. Over the last 20 years, C-Lab has grown from being the outpatient laboratory services arm of the hospital to serving the entire Cape Cod Healthcare system, distinguishing itself as a high-quality, patient-friendly operation. Today, C-Lab, with its 14 service center locations, is the largest local laboratory services program on Cape Cod.

On the occasion of its 26-year anniversary, Cape Cod Healthcare is pleased to announce new hours and staffing arrangements – and a new name - for the C-Lab outpatient laboratory services department. As of November 1, 2014, the new name will be Cape Cod Healthcare Laboratory Services. Patients searching for information, locations, directions, etc. for any service center will now look for “Cape Cod Healthcare Laboratory Services.”

“This new name more accurately describes the comprehensive services provided at our laboratory service centers,” said Michael K. Lauf, President and CEO of Cape Cod Healthcare (CCHC). “Cape Cod Healthcare Laboratory Services has the entire resources of Cape Cod Healthcare behind it in order to offer patients high-quality, highly responsive lab services.”

The hours and staffing were adjusted following an extensive review of the 14-site C-Lab operation and the new setup will improve customer service by structuring hours and staffing to better reflect patient usage patterns. Most CCHC Laboratory Services centers will open earlier, at 6 a.m., to accommodate patients who require early morning lab draws. The eight busiest outpatient lab service centers will be open from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Saturday hours will also be expanded to three more Service Center sites, providing a total of six outpatient sites offering Saturday hours. Saturday hours are also available at Falmouth Hospital, and Laboratory Services is open seven days a week at Cape Cod Hospital.

“Patient access and convenience are a high priority at Cape Cod Healthcare, and we are continually searching for better ways to deliver care in our inpatient and outpatient facilities,” said Mr. Lauf.  “We looked carefully at our outpatient laboratory services and our research showed that 68 % of our lab patients use our lab services before noon. As a result, we have adjusted our hours and staffing in order to be as responsive to the needs of our patients as possible.”

In an effort to better serve patients, CCHC Laboratory Services has increased the number of staff overall and adjusted the staffing hours and number of phlebotomists at each site to reflect the fact that most of the patient volume at lab service centers is seen in the morning.

The CCHC Laboratory Services Customer Service Department is open 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday and 7 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, and can be reached by calling 1-800-750-8378 or 508-539-6100.
