Cape Cod Healthcare Announces New Heart & Vascular Institute

Cape Cod Healthcare is pleased to announce the new Heart & Vascular Institute, an unprecedented partnership between CCHC and cardiovascular physician specialists on Cape Cod. The new Institute brings together the skill and experience of board-certified cardiovascular specialists and the full resources of the Cape’s leading healthcare system in order to deliver exceptional cardiac and vascular care to our region. The Institute is dedicated to the coordination and delivery of top-quality, best-practice medicine using the latest technology.

“The Heart & Vascular Institute allows us to bring forth colleagues from a whole host of areas to provide comprehensive, state-of-the-art care to patients,” said Cape Cod Hospital Interventional Cardiologist Richard Zelman, MD, FACC. “We have the means to care for patients quickly, expeditiously and safely in order to get patients home to their families and back to their lives as soon as possible.”

The medical specialties represented in the CCHC Heart & Vascular Institute are:

  • Community Cardiology
  • Vascular Medicine
  • Electrophysiology
  • Interventional Cardiology
  • Interventional Radiology
  • Vascular Surgery
  • Cardiac Surgery
  • Inpatient Hospitalist Cardiology
  • Cardiac Rehabilitation

“We’ve approached this new Institute in a real multi-disciplined fashion,” said Interventional Radiologist Philip Dombrowski, MD, who practices at Cape Cod Hospital and Falmouth Hospital. “We’ve been able to really work together to build the program and to bring new and innovative technology here.”

The CCHC Heart & Vascular Institute physicians are highly trained, skilled and experienced in the diagnosis and comprehensive, evidence-based treatment of cardiac and vascular diseases and conditions. Cardiology is a specialty that deals with the disorders of the heart, while vascular medicine deals with the circulatory systems – arteries, veins and lymphatics.

The CCHC Heart & Vascular Institute is:

  • An exceptional level of care with outcomes that compare to the best in the country.
  • Training and expertise of board-certified cardiac and vascular specialists combined with the full resources of the hospitals of CCHC: Cape Cod Hospital and Falmouth Hospital.
  • The best cardiovascular physician specialists coordinating care on one team.
  • Exceptional physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, technicians and staff.
  • The latest screening and education resources.
  • A continuum of care with seamless diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care.

“We are extremely fortunate to have partnered with physicians across Cape Cod Healthcare who have the skills, training and expertise commonly found only in major academic medical centers,” said Michael Lauf, President and CEO, CCHC. “The new Heart and Vascular Institute builds on this reputation and lets our community know that this, combined with the exceptional staff and technological resources of Cape Cod Healthcare, ensures that patients receive the best, most appropriate care right here on Cape Cod.”

The quality and sophistication of the CCHC physicians and hospitals has attracted top-quality doctors to Cape Cod in recent years, said Dr. Zelman. “In building this type of Institute, there’s a tremendous level of expertise now here on Cape Cod that really can’t be matched in any other community hospital,” he said.

Expert, compassionate care delivered by medical providers whom patients know and trust is the hallmark of the CCHC Heart & Vascular Institute. Most of the physicians came to Cape Cod from large hospitals and large institutions with the intention of bringing the same level of care here, said Falmouth Hospital Vascular Surgeon James Knox, MD.

“At the Heart & Vascular Institute, we are able to bring very high-tech, modern treatments to patients in a very personal way,” he said. “Patients have the advantage of having their entire care team – such as their primary care, their cardiologist and their surgeon – working together, close to home.”
