Edwin Barbey Patient Care Pavilion
The Edwin Barbey Patient Care Pavilion project at Cape Cod Hospital (CCH) is a transformative step toward the future for Cape Cod Healthcare, which will redefine cancer and clinical care for our region. The project features the addition of a new hospital pavilion, redevelopment of the campus, including improved infrastructure, improved traffic circulation with additional parking, and expansion of the surgical suite within the current hospital footprint.
The first two floors of the pavilion house the Davenport-Mugar Cancer Center, with the first floor offering the most advanced radiation oncology treatments. State-of-the-art equipment and software upgrades for the radiology oncology department include a new TrueBeam linear accelerator (in addition to an existing accelerator), ExacTrack BrainLAB technology, a new CT simulator, HDR (High Dose Radiation) machine and a portable X-ray system. This leading-edge technology offers enhanced precision during treatment delivery, helping patients to receive treatment in shorter time and with advanced accuracy, while minimizing the risk of radiation on normal tissue. Medical oncology will be located on the second floor, comprised of 36 private and spacious infusion bays filled with natural light, medical oncology exam rooms, a dedicated oncology pharmacy and expanded lab draw services. A terrace garden deck, accessible from the infusion area of the second floor, offers views of Hyannis Harbor and Lewis Bay, creating a serene space for patients, families and staff.
The upper floors are slotted to open later in 2025, with the third floor dedicated to cardiac care for patients with heart-related procedures, as well as specialized care for those recovering from interventional and surgical procedures . The floor will offer 32 beds and consolidate the hospital's inpatient cardiology services into a centralized, advanced care unit. The fourth floor will provide much needed expansion of the hospital's medical capacity by adding 32 beds to the existing inventory, helping to accommodate the growing demand for medical/surgical services. Each patient room in the pavilion will offer single-bed occupancy, promoting quiet and privacy to enhance the healing environment.
Cape Cod Hospital has evolved into a regional medical center with advanced specialty care, while continuing to serve as a safety net provider. The state-of-the-art Barbey Patient Care Pavilion exemplifies Cape Cod Healthcare's commitment to excellence and to our mission of providing exceptional care for the community of Cape Cod, ensuring residents have access to the most advanced, top-tier oncology, cardiology and clinical care services, close to home.
