As the only one of its kind in Barnstable County, the Cape Cod Wound Care Center offers comprehensive and quality wound care services, provided by highly experienced physicians and staff.

The Center recently expanded its services – and changed its venue - when it relocated from Sandwich to the Bourne Health Center. At the new facility, the Center has five exam rooms and has enhanced its clinical capabilities with the addition of state-of-the-art Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT).

Healing with Pure Oxygen

The Wound Care Center has enhanced its clinical capabilities with the addition of state-of-the-art Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT). It is the only facility on Cape Cod offering HBOT. HBOT, which is administered while the patient lies in an enclosed chamber, is the therapeutic use of oxygen under pressure. In wound healing, HBOT is used to counteract an insufficient supply of oxygen which prevents normal healing processes. HBOT provides the oxygen needed to stimulate and support wound healing.

By providing technically-advanced wound care, HBOT offers hope not only to patients suffering from non-healing chronic wounds, but also to other types of patients for whom the therapy is indicated, including those suffering from osteoradionecrosis and soft tissue radiation injury, compromised skin grafts and flaps, necrotizing infection and acute peripheral arterial insufficiency.

The Wound Care Center has two hyperbaric oxygen chambers. Patients who receive the therapy spend 90 minutes in the chamber five days a week and receive up to 90 treatments.

The seven physicians affiliated with the Center treat all types of wounds with a variety of different treatment modalities.
