Interpreter Services

We are committed to clearly and thoroughly communicating with all patients and their families about the care we provide. Cape Cod Healthcare welcomes our limited English proficiency and deaf and hard of hearing patients, and has special services to help you access our health care services.

You have the right to a medical interpreter at no cost.

To help ensure a smooth hospital stay, please let your doctor know in advance about your language. If you need an interpreter while in the hospital, please contact your nurse and doctor and ask them to page or call for an interpreter.

Why do we have Interpreters?

Cape Cod Healthcare is committed to proving linguistically and cultural appropriate services to our patients. For this reason we have many trained medical interpreters on staff.

In the medical setting, it is essential that patients actively participate in a dialogue with their healthcare provider. The need to understand information, diagnosis and directions accurately is crucial before making medical that effect their treatment or that of a loved one. While many of our non-English speaking patients and their families use some English in other settings, it is not the language they use for medical purposes. 
 
Feelings of anxiousness or fear about a diagnosis or illness can affect communication. This often happens in emergency situations when a person may be too nervous to communicate clearly in anything other than their primary language.
 
Interpreters are available 24 hours per day.

Requesting an Interpreter

Cape Cod Healthcare staff as well as patients and family members, call us at:


We can help with the following:

  • Request a Medical Interpreter
  • Make, confirm or cancel an appointment
  • Find information regarding a family member admitted to Cape Cod Hospital or Falmouth Hospital
  • Talk to your provider

The Interpreter Services Department working hours are:

  • Cape Cod Hospital: Sunday – Saturday 7am 11pm
  • Falmouth Hospital: Monday – Friday 8am to 4pm

Resources and Services for deaf and hard of hearing patients


We will request an interpreter through the Massachusetts Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing upon your arrival to the hospital. Staff can call the Interpreter’s office for assistance at:

We also have a video unit available that can provide ASL interpreting through video. There are TTY pay phones at the entrances of both hospitals. You can ask your nurse for a TTY phone if you are admitted.

Parking:

We have parking available to patients and visitors at both hospitals. Cape Cod Hospital offers Valet parking. Simply drive to the main entrance of the hospital and they will park the car for you and give you a ticket.

Cape Cod Hospital Shuttle:
CCH offers a free bus service to and from the main campus and the various locations in the area.
