Our expert medical oncology team understands this and has developed provider teams to help patients cope with the challenges of cancer treatment. Patients quickly get to know the members of their provider team, who become trusted resources during their treatment. Knowing who to call with questions about everything from appointment times to symptom management is a comfort in a time of uncertainty.

Our specially trained medical oncologists, on-site pharmacists, oncology-certified nurses and hematology specialists at Cape Cod Hospital’s Davenport Mugar Cancer Center administer and monitor a full range of diagnostic services and treatments. They provide comprehensive specialty care and individualized treatment for a wide variety of cancers and hematological malignancies through:

• Chemotherapy
• Hormonal therapy
• Management of chemotherapy-related symptoms

The landscape of treatment options for people living with cancer is constantly changing. There are therapies that are different than standard chemotherapy because they target specified cancer cells and cancer cell pathways, rather than all rapidly-dividing cells within the body. Because only cancer cells are targeted, side effects from these treatments can be less intense than with standard chemotherapy.

Hematology outpatients are cared for in our Medical Oncology department. The great majority of hematological disorders can be consulted on and treated by our physicians.
