Quilt of Hope Party Planned March 31 - Event to Kick off Cancer Survivor Day

(Falmouth, March 8, 2012) – Cape Cod Healthcare and the Cancer Resource Center at the Falmouth Public Library are collaborating this year on a celebration of Cancer Survivor Day on Saturday, June 9 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at the Library. 

As part of the event, committee members are developing plans to display a Quilt of Hope, with squares contributed by local cancer survivors to celebrate their resilience and determination.  To prepare for this event, stitchers of all ages with a connection to cancer survival are invited to contribute a Survivor Square -- no matter if the survivor is a friend, a family member, or oneself.             

To encourage survivors to participate, local quilters Joanne Skudder and Lindsay Hopewood have prepared kits of ready-to-sew squares for both expert and novice stitchers. These kits are available at the Falmouth Public Library (300 Main Street), the East Falmouth Branch Library (310 E. Falmouth Hwy/ Rte 28) and the North Falmouth Branch Library (6 Chester St). On Saturday, March 31 from 1:00 - 4:00 pm, there will be a “Block Party” at the Falmouth Public Library to help contributors finish sewing their squares. Joanne and Lindsay will provide supplies and equipment to help procrastinating stitchers complete their task.  

The 25^thannual National Cancer Survivors Day now extends worldwide.
