CCHC Presents $60,000 to Duffy Health Center and Community Health Center of Cape Cod

(Hyannis, Oct. 14, 2011) Cape Cod Healthcare earlier this month presented two separate $30,000 gifts to Duffy Health Center in Hyannis and to Community Health Center of Cape Cod (CHC) in Mashpee. The money will be used toward completion of Duffy’s comprehensive $1 million capital campaign, undertaken to construct its brand-new building at 94 Main Street; and toward completion of the CHC’s ongoing $9.25 million campaign for its building project at its main location, 107 Commercial Street in Mashpee.

“Our mission at Cape Cod Healthcare comes down to ensuring that patients have access to the right care at the right time in the right place,” said Michael Lauf, President and CEO, Cape Cod Healthcare, explaining the purpose of the gifts. “The Duffy Health Center and Community Health Center of Cape Cod are a vital part of this mission. We look forward to collaborating closely with both organizations going forward.”

“We are thrilled to receive this important gift, helping us to complete our comprehensive campaign for our new building at 94 Main in Hyannis,” said Duffy Health Center CEO Heidi Nelson.  “The donation highlights the collaboration between Duffy and Cape Cod Healthcare to coordinate care for the most vulnerable.  Cape Cod Healthcare is truly a partner to Duffy Health Center.”

The new Duffy building at 94 Main Street opened in April. It enabled Duffy to move from three leased sites of approximately 8,000 square feet into one building of 14,000 square feet. The new site includes 13 exam rooms, allowing for more efficient provision of medical services. All Duffy programs and services, as well as all 52 staff members, are now under one roof.

“We are grateful for this tremendous gift, and we look forward to working closely with Cape Cod Healthcare on clinical integration projects and as we develop our medical home model over the next three years,” said Karen Gardner, Chief Executive Officer, CHC.“This expansion project will allow us to increase patient caseload from about 13,000 to more than 18,000 per year.”

CHC is a non-profit provider of primary and preventive health services, governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. It functions much like a doctor’s office, offering services such as regular office visits, check-ups, screenings, and case management for chronic conditions. Patients can also receive dental care, behavioral health, family planning and prescription assistance services, as well as referrals for specialty care.

“Among our Community Benefits priorities is increasing access to health care for homeless individuals and families, and for uninsured and under-insured populations,” said Mr. Lauf. “That’s why we believe it was important to give these gifts to Duffy Health Center and to Community Health Center of Cape Cod.”
