Cape Cod Hospital Midwives Deliver Thousands of Babies

Women who choose the Cape Cod Hospital Family Birthplace for delivery have the option to choose midwifery care before, during and after giving birth. Many women choose midwifery for its family-centered approach, dedication to education and promotion of normal pregnancy, labor and birth with medical intervention only when necessary.

What is a Certified Nurse-Midwife?

All midwives at CCHC are certified nurse-midwives (CNMs). A CNM is educated in nursing and midwifery and certified by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. In Massachusetts, they are licensed by the state to provide continuous, supportive care throughout a woman’s pregnancy and birth and can also provide well-woman care through the childbearing years and beyond.

Midwives: The Specialists of Normal

The CNMs at the Family Birthplace love welcoming new life to the world and consider themselves “the specialists of normal.” Although they can often reduce the need for high-tech interventions for women in labor, they are also trained in the latest procedures to assist in normal deliveries.

Our CNMs work closely with physicians to fulfill our commitment to quality care for all mothers and babies. Your care team may include one or more medical specialists, CNMs and nurses—all dedicated to providing you with compassionate, skilled care to meet your unique needs and preferences.
