Total Joint Replacement Rehabilitation

Learn More

For more information on Total Joint Replacement Surgery visit or Total Joint Center.

Rehabilitation Services begin prior to Total Joint Replacement. Before surgery, patients attend a pre-op teaching class and are encouraged to do outpatient physical therapy (or Pre-Hab) to work on their strength prior to their procedure.

Post-surgery, the physical therapist will visit them in the hospital either the day of their procedure or the day after. They will assist in walking, starting exercises and encourage patients to get out of bed several times a day – a practice that improves overall outcomes.

Most Total Joint Replacement patients will go directly home from the hospital and will have physical therapy at home until their mobility improves, allowing them to visit an outpatient rehab, where they will continue to work on their functional mobility, ambulation, range of motion and strength.
