Achilles Papavasiliou, MD, FAANS, Neurological Surgeon

Achilles Papavasiliou MD has been in practice for over 12 years at Cape Cod Hospital. He received his medical degree at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in NY, NY, and completed his neurosurgery residency at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, NH. where he also obtained his Masters and did a Spine fellowship.  He is board certified by the American College of Neurological Surgery.

Dr. Papavasiliou decided to practice on Cape Cod after he met his neurosurgery colleague , Paul Houle, MD, while both were interns at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Dr. Papavasiliou studied neuroscience and molecular biology as an undergraduate student. While at medical school, he worked with the Neurosurgeons at Albert Einstein and the experience convinced him that he wanted to become a neurosurgeon.

Dr. Papavasiliou is skilled and experienced in all problems related to the nervous system, such as disc herniations in the neck and lower back, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, tumors of the spine, as well as tumors and hemorrhages of the brain, and trauma of the brain and spine.

Dr. Papavasiliou’s practice philosophy is to present patients with the different treatment options and then help guide them through the healthcare system. “Sometimes that involves surgery, but more often than not it involves non-surgical treatment,” he said. “We’re trying to guide them through the decision-making process, and help them choose the treatment option that is best for them and their family."
