Excellence in Cardiac Care Cape
Cod Healthcare has developed a strong reputation for excellence in cardiac
care. Cape Cod Hospital was rated #1 in Massachusetts by the Centers for
Medicare and Medicaid Services for the likelihood of a patient surviving at
least 30 days after a heart attack. The federal agency also rated the hospital
as one of just 17 other hospitals around the country with outcomes that were
better than national averages for 30-day heart attack mortality rates.
Cape Cod Hospital, in partnership with Brigham and Women’s
Hospital, launched its open-heart surgery program in August 2002. Since
then, more than 1,000 cardiac surgery
procedures have been done at the hospital. The cardiac surgery program has a
mortality rate of 1.8%, which is below state and national expected mortality.
Cape Cod Hospital is one of just three community hospitals in Massachusetts
approved for open-heart surgery.
Cape Cod Hospital is also approved to do both elective and emergency
angioplasties and has built a world-class cardiac care team over the years.
Richard Zelman, M.D., director of the interventional cardiology program at Cape
Cod Healthcare, performs more angioplasties than any physicianin Massachusetts. The American College of Cardiology ranks Cape Cod
Hospital #1 in the country in outcomes for coronary interventions.
