Dan Loberman, MD, named Director of Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery for CCHC

Cape Cod Healthcare is pleased to announce that cardiac surgeon Dan Loberman, MD, has been named Director of Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery for Cape Cod Healthcare. As part of his new position, Dr. Loberman will be directing the Minimally Invasive Valve Clinic, while continuing to treat patients.

“Dr. Loberman is a skilled cardiac surgeon who, together with Chief of Cardiac Surgery Paul Pirundini, MD, has developed an exceptional cardiac surgery program that is providing excellent outcomes for our patients,” said Michael K. Lauf, president and CEO of Cape Cod Healthcare. “Dr. Loberman is highly skilled in our exciting new minimally invasive mitral valve repair surgery, and has performed more than 40 mitral valve procedures in the last year; half of which were minimally invasive.”

Minimally Invasive Mitral Valve Repair is a surgical procedure which restores valve function through a surgery requiring only a two- to three-inch incision on the right side. This less-invasive approach allows for a shorter hospital stay and recovery time for those patients whose conditions allow this surgical intervention.

This new standard of care joins traditional Mitral Valve Replacement surgery, which requires a larger mid-chest incision and full replacement of the valve. Valve Replacement surgery requires a lengthened recovery time before which normal physical activity can resume.

“Dr. Loberman has helped to elevate the cardiac surgery program at Cape Cod Healthcare through his strong interest in the latest, cutting-edge procedures,” said Dr. Pirundini. “His skills and hard work have made it possible to bring them to our patients on Cape Cod.”
