Mini Colon Demonstrations for Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

March 2013

In recognition of Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, Cape Cod Healthcare is pleased to announce Mini Inflatable Colon demonstrations will be held at various spots during the month of March. The demonstrations are sponsored by the Cape Cod Healthcare Regional Cancer Network, dedicated to providing the best and latest cancer care close to home.

The inflatable colon is a replica of the large intestine. The four-foot-tall, six-foot-wide model features various stages and descriptions of colorectal disease, including:

  • Normal colon tissue
  • Crohn's disease
  • Polyp
  • Malignant polyp
  • Colon cancer
  • Advanced colon cancer

The Mini Colon allows spectators to visualize how colorectal disease affects the colon and rectum. It highlights the importance of regular colorectal screening, which can detect disease in its earliest and most treatable stages.

The March schedule of appearances of the Mini Colon is:

  • March 5 - Falmouth Hospital, Faxon Lobby, operated by Endoscopy Nurses
  • The weeks of March 11 and March 18 - Falmouth Public Library
  • March 23 - Sandwich Wellness Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at H.T. Wing School
