Zammers Honored With Nickerson Award

November 2012

William and Linda Zammer will be honored as the 2012 recipients of the Joshua A. Nickerson Society Award at a ceremony at Cape Cod Hospital on Nov. 28, 2012. Owners of the Coonamesset Inn in Falmouth and several other prominent Cape Cod establishments, the Zammers have a long history of distinguished service to the Cape Cod community.

Joshua Nickerson of Chatham played an integral part in the development and preservation of such Cape Cod institutions as Cape Cod Hospital, Cape Playhouse and Cape Cod National Seashore, among many others. The Joshua A. Nickerson Society Award was established in 1982 to acknowledge and honor the contributions of individuals who have given of themselves to promote the well-being and welfare of the people of Cape Cod.

"This award is given to people because they share the commitment and contributions made by Josh Nickerson, and have worked like Josh for the preservation and betterment of Cape Cod, its environment, institutions and the health and happiness of its citizens," said Brooks Thayer, Nickerson Society President and past chairman of the Cape Cod Foundation. "As a team, Linda and Bill Zammer have used their business opportunities to promote best practices, and to support and strengthen the Cape Cod region."

Both Linda and Bill have served with distinction on numerous Cape and regional boards and organizations. Bill is Chairman of Cape Cod Healthcare, Inc.; Trustee of Cape Cod Community College; on the Advisory Board of Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical High School; a director for the Police Athletic League of Cape Cod, Boys and Girls Clubs of Cape Cod, Cape Cod Business Roundtable, Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra and Cape & Islands Workforce Investment Board; and serves the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Workforce Investment Board and Marine Biological Laboratories in Woods Hole, and the Cape Cod Hospitality Association. He is also Chairman of the Massachusetts Restaurant Association.

Linda is Director and Clerk of Cape Cod Foundation, and is also Chairman of its Scholarship Awards Committee. She is on the board of the Friends of Fairwinds in Falmouth, Boys and Girls Club in Mashpee, Mashpee Scholarship Foundation and the Hyannis Pops Committee. She also has served on the board of the Volunteers of Schools (VIPS) in Falmouth, among other charitable and professional associations.

In response to a need for trained hospitality staff, the couple established the Linda and William Zammer Hospitality and Culinary Studies program at Cape Cod Community College.

The Nov. 28 ceremony to honor the Zammers will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Marian G. and Stephen P. Mugar wing of Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
