Hospital is Candidate for Livestrong Grant

March 2012

Cape Cod Healthcare is pleased to announce that the Falmouth Hospital Palliative Care Program has been selected as a candidate for the Livestrong® Community Impact Project. The project by the internationally-known cancer awareness and prevention organization was created to bring proven cancer support programs to communities across the U.S.

Finalists for the program will be determined through an online voting campaign which ends March 23 at 6 p.m. Applicants with the top votes per region will receive a $10,000 grant to help with community education efforts, through Advanced Certification for Palliative Care. Winners will be announced on April 9.

Advanced Certification for Palliative Care is a program of The Joint Commission and is designed to set standards and acknowledge hospitals that are providing state-of-the-art palliative care services. The Center to Advance Palliative Care will provide tools and training to the 20 hospitals and cancer centers across the country that receive the Livestrong®grant.

Falmouth Hospital established a Palliative Care Committee in 2010 to better address patients' needs, especially for end-of-life care for patients and families. Palliative care is provided by an inter-disciplinary team at FH, led by Dr. Nancy Tilson-Mallett.
