The Wilkens Ambulatory Medical Complex is nearing completion at a convenient location at 35 Gonsalves Road, off of Attuck’s Lane in Independence Park in Hyannis. The Cape Cod dermatology practice of Elizabeth Tierney, MD, opened in Suite A of the Wilkens complex in mid-November, and the full facility is expected to open by February 2012. It will offer accessible radiology and other imaging services in the Mid-Cape area, including MRI, CT, general radiology, fluoroscopy, mammography and bone density procedures.

The Breast Care Center, which is now located next to Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, will move to the Wilkens complex and will be known as the Cuda Women’s Health Center. Women in need of accessible, convenient mammograms on Cape Cod, as well as other breast care services, can make an appointment at Wilkens. Our digital mammography machines are equipped with computer-aided detection (CAD), which can recognize small abnormalities that might otherwise go unnoticed. Further work-up of any detected abnormality can be done on-site, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the breast – the most advanced imaging technology available – or biopsy with ultrasound guided or stereotactic technique.

The Wilkens Ambulatory Medical Complex was made possible by a 2008 transformational gift of $5 million from Maureen and Frank Wilkens of Osterville and Palm Beach, Florida. The Cuda Women’s Health Center was named for benefactors Richard S. Cuda and his wife, the late Ellen “Ellie” B. Cuda. The Orleans couple generously donated $2.5 million toward the project in 2009. All breast care services, including digital screening mammography, diagnostic mammography, ultrasound, image-guided biopsies and breast MRI examinations, will be available at the new center.
